do we get a list of school supplies we need?

Anonymous said...

You won't get a list of supplies sent to you. Generally, you will need the basic supplies; pens, pencils, erasers, ruler, calculator, paper/notebooks/ binders. However, within the first few days of class your teachers will tell you what exactly you need for the class if there is something special.

What is the lunch menu?

Anonymous said...

The lunch menu works on a weekly basis. Each day there is a different special (i.e., pasta, or chicken burgers). There are other items like sandwiches that are available every day. The cafeteria also sells a variety of drinks, as well as breakfast and dessert type foods like cookies, danishes and muffins.

what if i want to leave the school at lunch time because i live close by, or if i want to go up town. do i need a permission slip?

During your lunch break you may go home or up town. You do not need a permission slip to leave. However, you MUST be back in time to go to your locker, get your things and get to class before the bell rings.

What about the layout of the school? Is it alike to TCES, with a complete circle on one floor? I'm worried that I will not be able to figure out where things are with there being so many hallways and floors.

Greg Carruthers said...

You're correct, it is a lot like TCES except with two extra floors! The first floor at DSS is just big one big rectangle. If your room number begins with a "1" like "Room 118" then your classroom is on the first floor. DSS has two more floors above that and you can tell what floor your classroom is on by the first digit in the room number.
You've been to DSS a number of times and we'll invite you here at least three more times before September, you'll know your way around in no time. Getting lost at high school is a common concern for most new students, you are not alone.

Hi,

I was just wondering what do we do if we have to leave early for an appoitment or something, do we need like a note from parents?

Greg Carruthers said...

Yes, if you need to leave for an appointment, bring a note to the office and give it to the attendance secretary before school starts in the morning. She will give you a slip to get out of class at the proper time. It's as easy as that. Just sign in with the attendance secretary when you return from your appointment.

how do you find out where your classes and your lockers are?

Greg Carruthers said...

You will be given a timetable of all your classes and your locker location on the Thursday before Labour Day. That is a day where we invite you to come to the school, meet your teachers and do all the things necessary to get you ready for school.

What happens if we miss a day of school because we are sick or something? How do we catch up with the work that we missed?

Greg Carruthers said...

If you miss a day because you are sick you have a few responsibilities. First have a parent or guardian call the school and let us know that you will be away from school or bring a note to the office the next day signed by a parent or guardian. If you are at home and you feel up to doing some work, you can check the DSS website and see if your teachers have posted any homework on their homework blogs.

Next, when you return, you must ask each teacher what you missed and how you can make it up, teachers will understand if you have been sick.
